Carnival 2015 is here, and that means Haitian bands have been putting out new music. In many people’s opinions, this year’s carnival songs are a bit lackluster. Just this past week, legendary Haitian music producer Fabrice Rouzier had a brief word with Kompa Magazine expressing his disappointment in this year’s carnival music. Rouzier even called out some of the biggest bands in music industry, saying that their latest musical offerings are “Boring, repetitive and completely uncreative.” We aren’t going to argue with a Haitian music connoisseur. However, we have found some gems in this year’s carnival selections that have been on constant loop on our iPods. Here is Woy Magazine’s Top 10 Carnival songs for 2015:

10. LEADER — P BOYS FEAT. BAKY

This is only their 2nd carnival, and these boys are showing promise!

9. 2  CHAY — CHALÈ

Because at WOY we have a lot of chay on our backs!

8. YON TAN POU CHAK — REV

“Goumen pou moun ki pap trayi nou, renmen moun ki renmen nou…”

7.   TOUTOUNI — BARIKAD CREW

Another ‘T’ that we approve of!

6. TOUT KÒ M’ SE ZO — JAHMAN

Jahman is back! Shake your dreads!

5.  SUR LA POINTE DES PIEDS — KING POSSE

It’s not their most original Carnival, but we are so happy to have our King Posse back!

4. SYMPHONY DU GHETTO — RAM

Who doesn’t love a good rara??

3. IPOKRIT — ZATRAP

Because this song and the video make us so happy!

2. TI PATI PA M’ KANPE —  VWADÈZIL

The metaphors in their lyrics never disappoint!

1. PÈPÈYÈ — BOUKMAN EKSPERYANS

Because it’s BOUKMAN! And every year, they bring something new!

How about you?? What are some of your favorites?

Shout out to Plezi Kanaval!!!
